White Castle opens first automated kiosk at Boston airport

White Castle has opened its first automated airport kiosk this month at Boston Logan International Airport’s Terminal A, which sells four types of ready-to-eat sliders to travelers. Although White Castle sliders were previously available in multi-brand kiosks at college campuses and hospitals across the country, this new Crave & Go kiosk is the first of its kind.

The fully automated kiosk was created in partnership with the Just Baked food kiosk company and dining solutions company Evolvending. Customers can choose from White Castle’s original slider, classic cheese slider, the cheddar bacon cheese slider, and chicken and cheese slider.

“White Castle is thrilled to bring ‘The Crave’ to Boston Logan and nourishment to travelers at this iconic airport,” Sarah Paulson, director of retail marketing, innovation, and licensing for White Castle, said in a statement. “Our retail division has been bringing sliders to cravers outside of restaurants for nearly 40 years. Now, these same sliders are ready in under two minutes for a hot and tasty meal or snack on the go.”

White Castle is one of a few brands investing in automated kiosks and vending machines in nontraditional locations. Last month, Chick-fil-A began a test of a temperature-controlled market fridge at Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta, Ga., and the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta. Additionally, California Pizza Kitchen has been investing in automated vending machine technology, though there has been no further details yet on this development.
